Board, Role-playing & War-gaming League (BR&WL) Savage Worlds Adventure Edition: Pathfinder
Welcome, BR&WLers!This guide outlines the official rules and structure for BR&WL Organized Play using Savage Pathfinder (Savage Worlds Adventure Edition ruleset). Our goal is to create a fun, consistent, and fair experience where characters can be played across different tables, GMs, and events while rewarding participation and community spirit.
1. Core Principles
All games follow the official Savage Pathfinder rules (Pathfinder for Savage Worlds core book) unless a specific BR&WL exception is noted.
Characters are portable across all BR&WL Organized Play tables and events.
Play is cooperative and heroic in tone, set in the world of Golarion (or compatible homebrew areas approved by the BR&WL WARBOSS).
Respect the table, the GM, and fellow BR&WLers at all times.
2. Character Creation
Characters are built using the standard Savage Pathfinder rules.
Starting Rank: Novice.
Use the normal number of Attribute Points, Skill Points, Hindrances, and Edges as described in the core rules.
No custom house rules for character creation unless pre-approved for a specific campaign or special event.
Record your character on an official BR&WL character sheet (or approved digital format).
3. BR&WL Tokens – The League Reward System
Before every Organized Play game session, each BR&WLer receives 3 BR&WL Tokens.
These tokens represent your participation and can be spent in the following ways:
Use of Token
Effect
When it can be used
Conviction
Gain 1 Conviction for the session (as per SWADE rules)
During the game session
Bennies
Trade 1 Token for 3 Bennies
During the game session
Experience
Gain 1 extra XP after the game
After the session ends
Bazaar Purchase
Save tokens to buy unique mundane or magical items from the BR&WL Bazaar
Between sessions or at events
Tokens do not expire and can be saved across multiple games.
Leftover tokens carry over to future sessions.
Players with their own copy of the official Savage Worlds Pathfinder Rule Book, gain 1 additional BR&WL Token at the start of each game.
4. Bennies & Resources During Play
Every character begins each session with 3 Bennies.
No additional Bennies are awarded by the GM during normal play.
Players may spend 1 BR&WL Token during the session to gain 3 extra Bennies.
Conviction, rerolls, and other SWADE mechanics function normally.
5. Advancement
Characters DO NOT earn XP for play sessions.
XP can be gained by spending one or more BR&WL Tokens after the game.
Advancement follows standard Savage Pathfinder rules:
4 XP = 1 Rank increase (when eligible).
Spend XP on new Edges, Skills, Attributes, etc. per the core book.
6. Game Sessions & Table Rules
Standard session length: 3+ hours.
Recommended player count: 4–6 players + 1 GM.
All players (including the GM) are encouraged to be BR&WLers and receive their 3 BR&WL Tokens.
GMs earn 3 BR&WL Tokens after each BR&WL game hosted.
Games should be challenging but fair. Savage Worlds is designed for fast, cinematic play — lean into that!
7. The BR&WL Bazaar
Saved BR&WL Tokens can be exchanged for special items (mundane gear, magical weapons, armor, consumables, etc.) at the BR&WL Bazaar. Bazaar inventory and costs will be posted at conventions or on the league website. Items purchased are added to your character and remain legal for future Organized Play games.
8. GM Guidelines
GMs have authority at their table but should stay within the spirit of Savage Pathfinder.
Encourage new players and help them learn the fast-paced Savage Worlds system.
9. Character Death & Replacement
Death is possible and permanent in Savage Worlds.
If a character dies, the player may create a new character of equal Rank. Note the name of the dead character on the new characters sheet. Players may also note the relationship between the two characters as they wish.
The new character starts with standard gear appropriate to their Rank.
10. How to Participate
Create or bring your Savage Pathfinder character.
Just join a BR&WL Organized Play game at a convention, store event, private game table or online, and you’re a BR&WLer!
Receive your 3 BR&WL Tokens at the start.
Play, have fun, and grow your legend!
